Vancouver North West Hawks
The North West Hawks U18 AAA team (formally Major Midget) was originally called the Vancouver North West Giants from their inaugural 2004 season until the 2017-18 season. The Hawks name change came into effect in 2018-19. The team has a long storied history of success by winning 7 Provincial Championships, 2 Macs Tournament Titels and 2 Telus Cup appearances. The team has had great success in moving players up through the ranks to Junior, NCAA and Pro. Over 120 players have moved up from the North West Hawks program, including present NHLers Sam Reinhart, Ryan-Nugent-Hopkins, Jordan Weal, Martin Jones, Colton Sissons, Alexander Kerfoot and Jansen Harkins.
The team is comprised of 15, 16 and 17 year olds. The U18AAA league includes all 10 zone teams. Teams play 36 League games, including 2 Showcase weekends, plus play-offs. This includes 4-5 out-of-town travel games. League games are 3 x 20 min periods with ice cleans. The team will participate in the prestigious MACS tournament if they qualify. Players receive 120 hours of on-ice training, + 50 hours of game time ice and 75 hours of fitness and off-ice training.
